The Jewish girl, Anne Frank, hid from the Nazis in a secret backhouse on the Prinsengracht with her family and close family friends before being betrayed and transported to concentration camps. Her beautifully written diary became a symbol of life under German occupation. A visit to the Anne Frank House is not a happy one, but one of soul searching and insight with an intimate look into her world. The Anne Frank House can get very busy in high season so buy your ticket online beforehand, this ensures you a visit to this impressive must visit museum.
The Anne Frank House
The rooms at the museum still portray the atmosphere of the period spent in hiding. Historical documents, photographs, film images and original objects that belonged to those in hiding and those who assisted them help illustrate the events that took place. Anne’s original diary and other notebooks are also on display. When you are walking through the museum you can feel how cramped it is and how nearly impossible it must have been to keep quiet with so many people confined in the narrow living quarters. For people who have read the diary the story really comes to life as you see the small kitchen and rooms that she describes in her diary.
