Het Schip

One of the most beautiful examples of the well-known architectural movement De Amsterdamse School is Het Schip. With its wonderful continuous ceilings, ornate facades and distinctive bell tower which reaches far above the complex. Here you will find a museum dedicated to the movement where visitors are able to explore the expressionist architecture of the Amsterdamse school.  This impressive museum is located in the famous workers palace of architect Michel de Klerk. The extensive collection exhibits pictures, drawings, furniture and designs of household goods of the biggest representatives of the 100-year old group.

The Museum is located in the former primary school in The Ship at Oostzaanstraat 45. Here you can find the front desk, museum shop, lunchroom and several exhibits, which you can visit. The first floor houses the large permanent exhibition ‘Amsterdam School Constructed ideals’. Visitors will experience vividly what it is like to be surrounded with the skills, inspiration and imaginative splendor of the Amsterdam School. On the second floor you can find ever changing temporary exhibitions.
