The Jewish Museum, also known as the Jewish Historical Museum Amsterdam, has a verry impressive collection that consist out of more than 30000 historical artifacts, artworks and documents tracing back over 800 years. The museum has two permanent exhibitions and several temporary ones. Some of the most famous pieces in the museum’s collection are works from the German artist Charlotte Salomon, she is famous for her series of paintings named Leben? oder Theater?: Ein Singspiel (‘Life? or Theater?: A Song-play’), which she painted while in hiding from the Nazis. The museum gives visitors an accurate, insightful and chronological overview of the Jewish community and its development over the years. The Jewish Historical Museum Amsterdam is located in the east part of the city center, near the famous flea market of Waterlooplein.
