Hollandsche Schouwburg

The Hollandsche Schouwburg is located prominently in the Jewish Historical Quarter. This old theater was built in 1892, but got a whole different destination during World War 2. The  war turned the Hollandsche Schouwburg in a deportation center. After the war it was unclear what the purpose of the building was going to be. What do you do with a building that has such a heavy history. Today, the building serves as a monument to the memory of the victims.

About the memorial

The Hollandsche Schouwburg contains a memorial wall, here you find the names of the 6700 families and 104000 Dutch Jewish victims. Besides that there is an educational exhibition on the Jewish persecution during World War 2. The monument is a work in progress, over the coming years the building will be renovated and expanded with various (semi)permanent exhibitions.

You will find the Hollandsche Schouwburg in the Jewish Historical Quarter, right across from the National Holocaust Museum.
