The art of Gaudí and Dalí comes to life at Fabrique des Lumières
Fabrique des Lumières provides an innovative way for visitors to encounter the art of Catalan maestros Dalí and Gaudí. The captivating exhibition pays tribute to both artists.
Starting March 10, 2023, the Fabrique des Lumières art centre in Amsterdam will feature an immersive exhibition called “Dalí: The Endless Enigma.” The exhibit will bring Salvador Dalí’s psychedelic works to life accompanied by Pink Floyd’s music, filling the walls of the Zuiveringshal with hyperbolic ships, slanting columns, and undulating facades. The exhibition will include the work of Antoni Gaudí as well, he was a major inspiration for Dalí.
Dalí: The Endless Enigma
The Endless Enigma exhibition at Fabrique des Lumières showcases over sixty years of Dalí’s artistic development. Visitors explore surreal and metaphysical landscapes and view his imaginative works that often disregard logic and reason. The art is influenced by landscapes, European avant-garde artists, and theatre. Surrealism allowed him to express his fears, desires, and memories through experimentation. Though interested in natural sciences, his work was also shaped by Renaissance, classicism, and religious painting.
Music by Pink Floyd
The legendary music of the British band Pink Floyd, known for their technological experiments, is part of Dalí’s exposition. The band, formed in 1965, pushed the boundaries of music with new sounds and visual techniques. Their concerts were spectacular with pyrotechnic effects, lighting, and lasers, and their compositions referenced art, film, and literature of the 1970s, embodying a thriving counterculture spirit.
Gaudí: Architect of the Imaginary
The Fabrique des Lumières digital art centre also presents Gaudí’s works, which were defended by Dalí. The exhibition takes visitors on a dream-like journey through Gaudí’s modernist buildings, showcasing his signature forms and organic motifs. The exhibit is accompanied by the music of American composer Gershwin.
Factory des Lumières
The Fabrique des Lumières showcases exhibitions that utilize the unique architecture of the Zuiveringshal West, providing visitors with an immersive experience of classic, modern, and contemporary art. The centre aims to make art accessible to people of all ages and create unforgettable experiences for its visitors. The Fabrique des Lumières is located at the Westergasfabriek, where you can find various exhibitions, food markets, festivals and cultural events, so you’ll always find something new to discover.
