District: De Pijp
THE PIJP IN AMSTERDAM
So, you’ve heard that The Pijp is a neighborhood hou should visit? Then let us at Hello Amsterdam be your guide in The Pijp! This neighborhood used to be a separate district, but now it is officially part of Amsterdam Zuid. That shift doesn’t mean that The Pijp has lost its own atmosphere. It’s one of the older neighborhoods of Amsterdam and is full trendy boutiques. Healthy food lovers can eat at one of the many organic cafes or restaurants and on the weekend the bars are packed with locals.
The Pijp is also great for shopping! Go to the trendy Gerard Doustraat, Van Woustraat and the Ferdinand Bolstraat or experience the Albert Cuyp Market.
WHERE TO GO IN THE PIJP
The Pijp is also home of the Heineken Experience. You probably know though, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in town. What you probably did not know is that you can be one of the VIP guests and enjoy a private beer tasting with a Heineken connoisseur at the Heineken Experience. Cottoncake is one-part shop and one-part café. It is stocked full with various products from clothing to vintage furniture and gifts. For clothing, you can find everything from funky festival outfits to cozy basics. After shopping, you can sit and relax in the café, want to work a bit when you are in the city? You are welcome to bring your laptop and bang out some e-mails. Make sure to try the homemade cakes or stop for a lazy Sunday brunch with friends. Close to the Albert Cuyp market you can get your Mediterranean fix at Mamouche. Mamoche is a tender word meaning “my love” in Moroccan. This is the aptly chosen name of a restaurant that has been beautifully merging North African flavours with those of Western Europe since 2002.
