Amsterdam South

This is one of the more affluent parts of the city. Amsterdam South has a number of interesting neighborhoods, such as the Museum Quarter, home to some of the best museums in the world. Then there is De Pijp, a popular residential area with a lively street market (Albert Cuyp), restaurants and cool concept stores; the Rivierenbuurt, a middle-class are full of Amsterdam School-style buildings; and Buitenveldert, a leafy middle-class district. Besides that, Amsterdam South also has the Zuidas, Amsterdam’s central business district with plenty of modern architecture. The Zuidas is the only part in the city that has some form of high-rise buildings. When you visit the Zuidas you see a whole different side of Amsterdam. This part of the city is less laid-back and is lovingly called “the corporate concrete jungle” by those who work here.

What to do in Amsterdam South

If you get a chance to catch a show at Het Koninklijk Concertgebouw (The Royal Concert hall) we advise you to do it. The building is world famous because of its highly regarded acoustics, Queen Beatrix bestowed the royal title ‘Koninklijk’ (Royal) upon the building on occasion of its 125th anniversary in April 2013.The Royal Concertgebouw is considered one of the finest concerts halls in the world. The Van Gogh Museum houses the largest collection Vincent van Gogh pieces in the world. The museum is a must-see when you visit Amsterdam. Besides that, Amsterdam South has a luxurious-brands shopping street; The PC Hooftstraat, various good restaurants and the famous Vondelpark.
