Allard Pierson Museum

The Allard Pierson Museum is the archaeological museum of the University of Amsterdam. Artifacts from the ancient civilizations of ancient Egypt, the Near East, the Greek World, Etruria, and the Roman Empire are curated and exhibited in this museum. The museum was founded in 1934 as a part of the University of Amsterdam. The museum is situated in the former bank building that belonged to the Nederlandsche bank.

The museum has a semi permanent exhibition in which the original archaeological artifacts and statues are showed in various exhibits. With this collection the museum wants to give an unique insight into western traditions that are still entwined with the past and present. These artifacts help visitors with a cultural and historical timeline that gives an better understanding of the western culture in the present.
