From 10 to 13 January things will get heated during the Amsterdam International Salsa Festival. The 3 day Festival is an amazing experience for salsa enthusiasts and lovers of dance from all over the world. Expect over 60 workshops, dance showcases, and lots of afterparties! Amsterdam New Year’s celebration at the Southpole (Strand Zuid)

In winters, Amsterdam’s city beach Strand Zuid turns into a winter restaurant called the Southpole. On Friday 11 January they will host their annual New Year’s Event with drinks, dinner and, to relive the NYE moment, Oliebollen and fireworks! Prior to the party they serve a delicious 2-course meal with dishes like Smoked beef tartare with fried king prawns and Grilled veal entrecôte with smoked pumpkin puree. Vegetarian? No worries, they have amazing options for you as well! After dinner a live band will perform sing-alongs and the DJ will have you dancing the night away. All previous editions were sold out, so get your tickets fast if you don’t want to miss out on this fun night out!

LAB Classics: Forrest Gump (1994) — 25th Anniversary

When its cold out, there’s no better place to be than in a cosy movie theater watching a good film. LAB111 will be showing one of the greatest classics from the 90’s: Forrest Gump. They do this in honor of the 25th anniversary of this moving and 6 time Oscar award winning movie. Want to make it into a full afternoon out? Reserve a table at their restaurant Strangelove for brunch!

Star watching at Artis Royal Zoo

From 10 to 13 January the Artis Royal Zoo will host several special activities in honor of the International 100 hours of Astronomy event. On Januart 12th you’ll have the chance to visit the Zoo at night during their Star Watching at Artis night. Get an incredible look into the universe in their planetarium and learn all about life up there from world-famous astronomer Prof. dr. Ewine van Dishoeck during her lecture. Throughout the zoo telescopes will be set up so you can have a look at the sky above. This promises to be a night to remember!

Official Opening of FOAM Next Door

FOAM is an International favorite when it comes to photography museums. On Saturday 12 January they will open a pop-up location: Foam Next Door. The official opening event is open to all and will be celebrated with drinks and an exhibition by Foam Talent 2019. The 20 pieces that will be showcased are state of the art works from an upcoming generation of talents. This is your chance to be the first! The exhibition can be seen until 3 March 2019.

Living History Weekend at Rijksmuseum

On 12 and 13 January the Rijksmuseum will take you to the 80 Years War with a variety of extras activities with their Living History Weekend. Learn all about heroic weaponry, the glorious victories and devastating defeats. But there is more. If you show up in historical clothing or city colors they have some specials for you! From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. you’ll get free use of the video tour 80 Years War, a 17th century group photo (like the Nights Watch) and a free cup of coffee or tea.

Jazzy Sundays at The Hoxton

Live jazz music, great cocktails and delicious bites in a warm and cosy lounge. Does that sounds like a good Sunday afternoon to you? Head over to the Hoxton Hotel on Sunday 13 January, where their Jazzy Sundays takes place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Note that it’s a first come first serve event, so make sure to arrive on time.
