It’s time for a new Amsterdam Weekend Guide. We’ve gathered the most fun events, new hotspots to visit and things to do this weekend. So, don’t worry about missing out on anything. Enjoy!

Truffle Fantasy by 5&33 x Oysterboys

Who doesn’t love a good truffle pasta? On Friday 14 December 5&33 Lounge will host a truffle party with the Oysterboys. Expect there to be live DJ sets all night long, with champagne by Perrier-Jouët and bite size truffle pasta for only €5,-. And if bite size isn’t enough to get you through the night, the restaurant serves amazing Italian inspired dishes like Lobster Spaghetti and tender Rib Eye Steak. Gather your friends and get ready for a night of mingling, good food & drinks and maybe even some dancing!

Terug naar Toen at the Chin Chin Club

Terug naar Toen (translation: Back to then) is one of the hottest parties in town and will return to the Chin Chin Club on Friday 14 December with a Flower Power edition. Prepare for a night of dancing and love, peace & happiness! They always go all out on the decorations and play the best tunes fitting the editions theme. 

Tip: If you want to start your night early, the kitchen at the Chin Chin Club offers delicious Asian street food style dishes. And, you won’t have to pay entree for the night program if you’re in before 10:00 p.m.

New Exposition at the EYE Film Museum

From Saturday 15 December on the new exhibition Jan Švankmajer – The Alchemical Wedding will be showcased at the EYE Film Museum. The works of the Czech surrealist and master animator are filled with lust, horror and eroticism, bringing anything and everything to life. It’s often described as bizarre, but that’s exactly what makes his art so captivating. The exhibition shows a large selection of his objects and prints, as well as his films.

Sissy-Boy Christmas Market

Looking for Christmas gifts and Holiday outfits? The Sissy Boy Christmas Market is one of the coolest in town, with everything from cute gift items to fashion and interior design. Spend your Saturday browsing the stands with brands like All the Luck in the World, Atelier Labro and MILK Copenhagen. To keep you entertained during your shopping spree there will be all sorts of activities, live music and delicious bites and beverages. Everything you need for a fun day out!

Ugly Sweater Run

In for an active Saturday afternoon? Join in on the Ugly Sweater Run! The 5km run will take you through the Amsterdam Vondelpark, ending with an afterparty at Groot Melkhuis. Expect an amazing Christmas atmosphere with Santa Clause, Mariah Carey and Wham blasting through the speakers, hot chocolate to keep you warm and prizes for the best dressed runners. Register here if you want to take part in the run or just visit to enjoy the festivities while cheering on the others!

Lighting up the Dam Square Christmas Tree

The opening of the Holiday season in Amsterdam is celebrated with lighting up the biggest Christmas Tree in town: the one on Dam Square. The 20 meter high tree in front of the Royal Palace is decorated with 40.000(!) lights, that will be turned on during a festive ceremony on Saturday 15 December once it turns dark. From 5 p.m. on there will be lots of food and beverages, including hot chocolate to warm your hands on. Live music and other performances will get all attendees into the holiday spirit!

A classical Christmas Concert at the Concertgebouw

At the iconic Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Choir of St. John’s College, Cambridge will perform  Christmas Carols. Enjoy a heart-warming concert, bringing the holiday spirit alive at the Main Hall, well-known for its incredible acoustics and historical architecture. To make your experience at the Concertgebouw complete, you can enjoy a delicious champagne brunch at the restaurant after the concert. That’s what we call a Sunday afternoon well spend!

Sunday Bloody Sunday at Vanderveen Bar & Kitchen

Looking for a hangover cure or just in for a boozy brunch? Sunday Bloody Sunday at the newest spot in the Beethovenstraat is your place to be on 16 December. Brunch is served from 12:00 onwards, with live jazzy sounds from saxaphonist Joseph Waveshape. Relax and enjoy dishes like Poached eggs with Hashbrowns, Waffles an their amazing Roasted Beef with veggies. And, a bloody mary (or two) to make it complete!

Winter Pure Markt

The Pure Markt is a household name when it comes to food markets in Amsterdam. If you’re looking to explore different cuisines, from traditional Dutch to American pies and French delicacies, this is the place to be. Their winter edition on 16 December is dedicated to Christmas, with lots of delicious home-made food and market stands filled with artisan gift items. Expect a mix of vintage fashion, goodies and live music & entertainment to bring the Holiday spirit alive! Please note that this is an outdoor market, so we advice you to dress warm.
