Film & Documentary Festival: IDFA 2018

This week marked the start of IDFA 2018. At the International Documentary Film Festival producers, directors, critics and lovers of documentaries come together to celebrate the world of documentaries.  The program offers an amazing selection of films, to be seen from 14 until 25 November, including some special programs like IDFA Junior and Volkskrant Magazine Day: documentaries selected by editors or the magazines on themes such as love, food and fashion.

A Jazzy weekend at Super Sonic Jazz Festival

From 13 util 18 November five iconic churches in Amsterdam will provide the scene for all that is new in the world of contemporary jazz.  Super Sonic Jazz Festival will host numerous concerts by contemporary and innovative artists showcasing a diverse range in music styles, with jazz shining through in all of their performances. If you’re a lover of music, you’ll be in for a treat!

Light spectacle at De Bijenkorf

On Thursday 15 November the largest luxury department store in the Netherlands will celebrate the start of the holiday season with their yearly returning Turn on the Lights event.  Expect a spectacular show, followed by the illumination of the iconic Bijenkorf building located on Dam Square with 600.000 lights. This promises to be an unforgettable experience!

Europe’s largest vintage market: IJ-Hallen

Time for new clothes, upgrading your interior or looking for an ultimate vintage find? The IJ-Hallen is ready for you this weekend! With over 500 stalls, this is the biggest flea market in Europe. Expect there to be anything from unique fashion pieces to accessories and interior design. You’ll find anything from €3 knick knacks to €30 designer pieces. Beverages and bites are available at one of the many stands. So you can have a bargain shopping spree lasting a full day, if you’d like!

Spanish vibes at Txosta pop-up restaurant

The Foodhallen located on the west part of town offers a wide range of food stalls serving dishes from all International cuisines. This weekend the pop-up stand Txosta will add some Spanish vibes to that. Expect there to be delicious tapas style food like Pintxos, home-made croquettes, butter-sweet beef cheek and jamón ibérico. Get yourself some bites, head over to the bar for a cold craft beer and enjoy!

Vintage Crawl

On Saturday 17 November a twist on the classic Pub Crawl will be hosted by YM&TU. Want to learn how to vintage shop like a pro? Join in on the Vintage Fashion Crawl starting at café Pluk on the Reestraat 19! Expect a tour with a fun crowd passing several vintage stores, insights into vintage fashion and an expert by your side to answer all of your questions. Upgrade your wardrobe and make a positive impact towards a more sustainable fashion consumption.

Saturday night live dining at Dauphine for Orange Babies

On Saturday 17 November Club Dauphine will host a special edition of their famous live music dining experience. The evening will be dedicated to a good cause: giving children a chance on a HIV-free future. Expect a tasty 3-course dinner with fine wine pairings, while being entertained by a variety of artists. Live music, stand-up comedy and a (secret)famous artist, who will create a live artwork. Dance the night away after the dinner tables are set aside, all the while doing something good for the world. This promises to be a good way to spend your Saturday evening!

Techno lovers attention. Thuishaven is one of the most popular parties in Amsterdam when it comes to EDM and Techno. Opening on Sunday 18 November: PAN Amsterdam

On Sunday 18 November PAN Amsterdam, one of the biggest art fairs in Amsterdam, will open its doors. Over 110 antique shops  and art galleries & dealers will showcase their work. There will be an incredible array of paintings, contemporary art, jewelry and antique objects by both International artists and the top of the Dutch art scene. Get to know who’s hot and up-and-coming and be amazed by ancient objects from distant cultures.
