Box Sociaal

Box Sociaal is a new neighborhood favorite near Artis Royal Zoo. The two Australian owners like to mix their roots with the Dutch cuisine, making both their brunch and dinner menu very intriguing. Coming from a country that has high standards when it comes to service, that is exactly what they bring to the table at this new Amsterdam hotspot. More than welcome in a city where service in restaurants is not always on point. Everything is made from scratch at Box Sociaal, from the ketchup to their sausage patty’s. By doing this they waste as little as possible from the beautiful products they cook with.

Brunch favorite

It doesn’t happen often that almost everything on the menu looks so good, you can’t make a choice. Box Sociaal managed to do just that. From breakfast bowls to salads and sandwiches topped with an overload of fresh and tasty ingredients. How about the Kater Breakfast Sandwich: In-house Italian sausage patty, crispy bacon, golden hash brown and a fried egg on a pretzel bun. Or the World Famous Stroopwafel Waffle: a Belgian waffle stuffed with Amsterdam Stroopwafels topped with whipped crème fraiche, seasonal fruit, crushed nuts and maple syrup. A cup of (locally roasted) coffee to go with that and you’ll probably still dream about this the next day.

Box Sociaal at night

The dinner menu at Box Sociaal is a little less extensive but it’s nevertheless worth it to pay them a visit at night as well. Two favorites are the Roasted Texels Lamb rump with spring vegetables and feta cheese and The Parmy: bread crumbed fried chicken (or eggplant for vegetarians) served with homemade marinara, melted mozzarella and twice-cooked fries. In for something sweet? Try the Chewy Pavlova with lemon curd, mango, passionfruit and summer berries.  Or how about a Stroopwafel Espresso Martini: a cocktail with homemade stroopwafel vodka, Patricia coffee liqueur, fresh espresso and Licor 43. Now that’s a killer!
