Every year Amsterdam celebrates spring with the Cherry Blossom Festival in the Amsterdam Forrest (Amsterdamse bos). In Japanese culture the cherry blossom represents a new beginning and the fragility of life. During the festival the Cherry Blossom trees, gifted to the city by Japan in 2000, are in bloom for everyone to admire. The event is also known under the name “Japanese Sakura”. Come and celebrate spring during this Japanese inspired festival!

Things to do during the Cherry Blossom Festival

During the festival the area with the trees is open for the public. Traditionally the spring is celebrated with families picnicking underneath the trees, but there is more. During the event there is Japanese food and drinks available in the festival tent, besides that there will also be some traditional Japanese dancing and other cultural customs. The event is frequented by Japanese expats, locals and tourists, making it the perfect spot to meet new people and to enjoy this special part of the city.
