
The Chinese New Year in Amsterdam will be celebrated on different locations all throughout the city. On 5 February 2019, the year of the Earth Pig will kick off, the symbol of wealth and good fortune. Traditional festive decorations, lion dances and amazing fireworks can be found in the area’s around Amsterdam’s China town, located in the Red Light District near Dam Square and the Nieuwmarkt.

Chinese New Year: Restaurants
Many Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam will host events and serve special menu’s to celebrate the birth of the new year. One of the best places to go is Sea Palace, located on the docks near Amsterdam Central Station. This beautiful floating building is home to what is known to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam. Expect delightful authentic Cantonese dishes in an oriental ambiance. Another good one is the Chinese New Year lunch at Ron Gastrobar Oriental. They will serve a special 5-course ‘Sunday Lunch’ on February 10th. Expect delicious dishes like Dim Sum, Soy cured Corvina, Peking duck bao and a Surprise egg!

Cinetol Celebrates
Movietheater Cinetol will celebrate Chinese New Year 2019 with a special evening filled with on Saturday February 9th from 6:30 p.m. on. There will be live music, film screenings, art and of course, food! Music will be provided by Indie quartet ‘Probably Oslo’ from London and dream pop duo ‘The Secret Love Parade’ from Amsterdam. You can either choose to do dinner and the event, or the event only. Tickets are available here.

Chinese New Year at Fo Guang Shan He Hua
The Buddhist temple Fo Guang Shan He Hua is located on the Zeedijk 106 near the Red Light District. This is the largest traditional Chinese palace style temple in Europe, that holds a special program to celebrate the new year on different dates. From NY blessings, to chanting and more.
