Classic Beauties Exposition

The Hermitage opened their new exposition “Classic Beauties. Artists, Italy and the beauty ideals of the 18th century.”  This exposition is the story of artists and travelers in Italy and the beauty standards of the 18th century. Rome was popular during this time, mainly in the second half of the 18th century. Artists from all over Europa flocked to the city for inspiration or to see the archaeological finds. It was an interesting time in many fields, in architecture modern shapes come into fashion, in the visual arts a new sensual style develops: a naked, divine beauty, even more daring than with the Greeks and Romans. Neoclassicism is born.
