Forget about those small sand castles, during the Sand Sculpture EK 2018 you will see true pieces of art in Zandvoort aan Zee, only a small train ride from the Amsterdam City Center. This year’s theme is “Amsterdam Icons”, and seven international artists will create a sand sculpture portraying their interpretation of that theme. The sculptures will be on display from the 11th of June until the 30th of October. The judges will declare the winner on the 18th of June.
Sand Sculptures in 2017
In 2017 the festival’s theme was “Dutch Grand Masters”, and the artists really made some beautiful sculptures to fit into this theme. In the video below you can see the artists at work.
The Irish artist Fergus Mulvany won that edition with his (sand) portrait of Eppe de Haan.
