Flower Market (Bloemenmarkt)

Situated in the heart of the city is one of the most colorful attractions in Amsterdam: The Flower Market. The small market shops are based on a row of floating barges on the Singel canal, dating back to when flowers arrived by boat from the countryside. Walk past numerous stalls offering a wide range of fresh flowers, unique seeds and green plants.

The Flower Market: more than just tulips

Tulips have been a symbol for Amsterdam for quite some time now, so it’s no surprise you’ll find them in all colors possible at the Flower Market. But with all else they have to offer, you’ll for sure find your favorite flower here. Violets, orchids, roses and peonies, they have it all! Pick out some flower seeds or tulip bulbs to take home with you and mention to the seller that you’re traveling with them. They’ll make sure your purchase will be ready and packed to go through customs without a hassle.

On the street side of the Flower Market you’ll find numerous shops and restaurants. Try some authentic Gouda cheese or go for a traditional Dutch pancake. If you want to escape the busyness of the market head to the Reguliersdwarsstraat just around the corner.  Take a seat at one of the restaurants or cozy bars for a relaxed afternoon.
