Fun on the Ice

Fun on the ice is a small exhibition of prints and drawings of people in wintertime. Watch people from all walks of life enjoying the winter weather in the 17th century. Featuring 17 prints and drawings, this presentation is on view in the Rijksmuseum’s 17th-century Print Room from through 31 March 2018.

A little ice age in the 17th century

The Dutch have had a love for ice since, well… since forever really. There are countless pictures, paintings and drawings that can attest to this love. During the first decades of the 17th century the Netherlands was uncommonly cold. In this period, now known as the ‘Little Ice Age ‘
