I Am a Native Foreigner in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is a series of exhibitions that all explore the theme (im)migration. During these expositions they focus on the museum’s collection. How do different artists view the topic and how is this shown throughout their work.

About the exposition

During the exposition the museum takes you through the ages with photographs of immigrants at Ellis Island, The Bijlmer in Amsterdam and more recent images of the refugees of the coast of Southern Spain. The museum also has work of immigrant artists such as Remy Jungerman and Ed Hart on display. Besides that you will find various works and installations that challenge what you know about immigration, acceptance and the relationships between the Dutch and migration. This collection shows the effects of migration on artists both past and present, and reveals how they dealt with, and depicted, the impact of displacement.

I Am a Native Foreigner is an interesting multi-layered exposition that is on display until June 2nd.
