Jacob Riis at FOAM Photography Museum

A set of documentary photography by Jacob Riis is now on display at FOAM photography museum. This exposition is named The Other Half – The Activist Photography of Jacob Riis and shows vintage pictures from Riis. He arrived in 1870 in New York as, as an immigrant he felt concerned with the faith of the people on the Lower East Side. He started photographing them, this made him one of the most important journalists of his time.

About The Other Half – The Activist Photography of Jacob Riis

Besides vintage pictures of Riis himself, pictures of his contemporaries that are printed in 1946 and, more recent, 1994. Besides that there is a reconstruction of his lectures and a few of his personal items are on display. The Other Half is the first exposition of Jacob Riis in the Netherlands.

The exposition is a collaboration between FOAM and the Museum of the City of New York, and is on display until the 15th of April.
