Sergei Polunin – Sacré

For the first time ever, ballet sensation Sergei Polunin can be seen in a Dutch theater. The controversial dancer will perform his show SACRÉ at the iconic Royal Theater Carré three evenings in a row.  The powerful solo was choreographed by the Japanese Yuka Oishi. She made a new interpretation of the iconic ballet ‘Le Sacre du printemps’. A show that promises to be breathtaking.

Who is Sergei Polunin?

Sergei is an Ukrainian ballet dancer and model, who has been dancing and traveling the world since the age of 4. When he was 20 years old, Polunin became the British Royal Ballet’s youngest ever principal only to announced his resignation from the company two years later with the words “the artist in me was dying.” He started freelancing as principal dancer and guest artist at ballet companies all over the world.

His worldwide fame came through his collaboration with Hozier’s music video. “Take me to Church” was directed by David LaChapelle and seen as one of his masterpieces. A year later his life story became the subject of the feature film ‘Dancer’.  His youth, ballet training and international fame are followed and analyzed, giving you an intimate look into his life.

The Royal Theater Carré is one of Amsterdam’s oldest and most beautiful theaters, situated on the canals near the Amstel river. It was founded in 1887 meant as a building for circus shows. Nowadays, Carré is used mainly for musicals, cabaret and pop concerts by national and international stars. The yearly World Christmas Circus turns the theatre into a magical place for young and old.
