Photography Museum Foam has a new exposition by Seydou Keïta. In the 50’s and 60’s people from Bamako came to his studio to pose for his lens. This was a special occasion for them so they all dressed up in beautiful gowns ranging from traditional wear to western outfits. See women in beautiful dresses with interesting headwear and men in Western outfits hanging casually against a motorcycle. Through his portraits you can witness the transition from being a French colony to the free capital of the independent Mali.

More about the Exposition, Seydou Keïta – Bamako Portraits

This special exposition is on display until the 20th of June. Keïta’s big archive with over 10.000 negatives surfaced by accident when André Magnin was curating contemporary African Art. Foam has modern signed prints and vintage prints on display. The exposition is in collaboration with the Contemporary African Art Collection (CAAC) – The Pigozzi Collection.
