Gazing Ball by Jeff Koons is coming to Amsterdam for the new installment of the masterpiece series in the Nieuwe Kerk. The series presents works of art so extraordinary that they are almost never loaned out, because of their fragility or their status as beloved favorites.

Gazing Ball

The Gazing Ball is a beautiful combination of hand painted art and a smooth, cobalt-blue glass ball. The ball sits on the aluminum shelf attached to the front of the painting. Because of this, viewers and their surroundings are pulled in and even included in the beautiful painting. The right here and now combines with the then of the painting. Koons and his assistants reproduced every detail of the painting using thousands of different hand-mixed colours. Perugino’s eye, Koons’s eye and the viewer’s eye come together in this new three-dimensional masterpiece.
