The Mad Masters is the first institutional solo exhibition of the American artist and musician Stefan Tcherpnin. His visual art revolves around four large monsters, frozen in time. Making them more approachable, relatable and intriguing than scary.

About the exhibition – The Mad Masters

It is an immersive narrative, frozen in time. See the monsters captured in diorama environments and centered around a dramatic centerpiece; a glass clown face inspired by George C. Tilyou’s iconic Coney Island Steeplechase Park gate, strung from the ceiling as if a floating holographic amulet. Be surprised by what you see and feel while viewing this very special installation in the entrance of the Stedelijk Museum. Stefan Tcherepnin’s approach to creating visual art is heavily influenced by his background in music and performing. His practice is inherently collaborative, drawing on the artist’s network of artist and musician friends, their collaborative performances oftentimes taking place within Tcherepnin’s installations.
