City Archives

The Amsterdam City Archives preserves documents pertaining to the history of Amsterdam and provides information about the city. With archives covering a shelf-length of about 35 kilometres, City Archives is the largest municipal archive in the world. Here they collect and protect all documents that have historical relevance for the city. Besides that you can find interesting yearly events and temporary exhibitions.

Among the important documents the archives poseses the archives of the Heineken brewery. Besides that you can find letters written by Charles Darwin and a police report revolving around the theft of Anne Frank’s bike in 1942. Learn about the city’s history through these documents and the stories they tell.
